Unloved, dingy, almost prison-like. Oxford’s New Bodleian Library has always been an oddball among the university’s architectural treasures – a bland lump on the corner of Broad Street and Parks Road. Inside, the 11 levels of book stacks constipated the core of the library, and gave it a leaden atmosphere. The combined library collections number more than 11 million printed items, in addition to 30, e-journals and vast quantities of materials in other formats. Description The Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford is the largest university library system in the United Kingdom. It includes the principal University library - the Bodleian Library - which has been a legal deposit library for years; as well as 28 other libraries across Oxford including major research libraries and faculty, department and institute libraries.
